⚡️ E-Bikes: Before you Ride, Know the Law⚡️
E-bikes are becoming more popular across our community, and it’s important for riders and parents to understand both the rules and how to ride safely.
Under Florida law, e-bikes with operational pedals are considered bicycles. This means riders must follow the same traffic laws as traditional bicycles, with some exceptions based on classification.
To qualify as a legal e-bike in Florida:
🟢 It must have operational pedals
🟢 The motor must be 750 watts or less
🟢 The maximum assisted speed must not exceed 28 mph.
No license, registration, or insurance is required if your e-bike meets these standards.
💡Know Your E-Bike Class:
Class 1: Pedal-assist only, up to 20 mph
Class 2: Throttle-assisted, up to 20 mph
Class 3: Pedal-assist, up to 28 mph
‼️All e-bikes are required to have a label indicating their class, top speed, and motor wattage. Where you can ride and how you operate your e-bike may depend on its classification.
🚑 Don’t be another statistic. Emergency room visits related to e-bike crashes exceed 59,000 annually, and those numbers continue to rise. Higher speeds mean longer stopping distances and a greater risk of serious injury.
➡️ Parents: It is your responsibility to ensure your child is properly equipped, understands the rules, and is legally permitted to operate an e-bike before riding.
Let’s work together to keep our roads, sidewalks, and neighborhoods safe.

He says if it goes 28 miles an hour but it's a pedals on it it's considered a motorcycle no if a person is dumb enough to take the pedals off the e-bike then yes and goes 28 mph then is considered a motorcycle. That's why they say do not take the pedals off keep it as is that way you don't have to worry about the law
What if they lock in a setting that doesn't allow more than 27mph and 750 watts but the bike itself is capable of doing more through the CPU? I think there's a way to get into the main settings that's not so obvious, but people also keep it legal through the settings
How embarrassing. Government always wants to regulate everything so they can write tickets for it. If they don't regulate it they can't make money off of it.
It would be nice if you can educate 10speed bikers and what a nuisance they are and they break every law in the book every time they roll in packs
Liability insurance is not required on a motorcycle in the state of Florida. Given that, how is it required on certain e bikes? I'm not a fan of them, but let's be honest with the public about what the laws are. Is insurance a smart thing to have? Yes. Required? No.
🙋‍♂️ I have a question what about stunt guys like myself now I am not a fan of these street takeover wheelie guys on bicycles. Trust me. I hate that more than you do. It makes us all look bad but as a biker myself and a stunt trick bicyclist where can we go to do this on private property? What if we need a vacant parking lot to practice our routines our tricks. Im a union member of the screen actors guild and I get called to go do bicycle stunts for movies commercials print ads whatever and I gotta have a place to practice. I gotta have a street or a tennis court or a public parking lot somewhere so you need to guys to have a defined space for us to go if you want this to be all legal and stuff.
We should all be advocating for common sense safeguards for ebikes and escooters. Including required education, basic registration (free), minimum age of at least 16, and e-bike rated helmets for all minors. This would be for all motorized and motor assisted vehicles over 15mph.
Amen brother because they can get hurt on one of them that's a car it drives like car but it doesn't have a car protection God bless y'all and y'all family in the name of Jesus Amen 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹🌹
Yeah these are doing these in different states. Luxurious part is it went from electric bike and riding an 80cc pedal motor which they both technically go the same speed. They can't say if it goes over 28 mph then it needs to be registered. Just cause screen says ur going that fast No way. there's level one two three if don't program it for the speed. They only go pending on person weight.
Then we complain about this generation only playing video games. The moment they find something cool to do all the meddlers come out. We really need a guy with a bullet proof vest and grenade launchers to dictate rules and stop kids? The helmet even had night vision! Are we in a state of war? Because the bike has pedals is ok???? Meanwhile you can ride a 1000cc bike without a helmet!!!!Nothing like a few scratches to learn a thing or two…. Please let survival of the fittest take its natural course 😁
Yes by all means kids and parents because they need the money. More laws and you can't even do the ones that's on the books
It's about time somebody put their foot down kids 10 years and younger riding around the neighborhood taking corners, like it's a race
Ok so anything over 750 wats and 28 mph is definitely not an electric motorcycle they are e motos and cannot be street legal they do not pass dot regulations for street use they are off road only. There are actual electricity powered motorcycle that are street legal
Before you buy one of these for your kids make sure it goes super super fast
Thank you Please enforce all applicable laws and protect the public
Wait til ya see my mini rcr 3 wheel e-bike. 750 w. Max speed of 20mph and has pedals.... Yes it's a 3 wheel atc.
In Tallahassee, motorists do what they want with immunity. How is TPD supposed to enforce teenagers on e-bikes, when they refuse to enforce the adults?
They don’t know how to follow traffic laws most of the time… and lots of young ones to watch out for….. Especially at 4 way stops I’ve seen many not even stop to watch for traffic and just keep going….
Imagine a DIY 72V e-bike with a Huffy frame, with a license plate, turn signals, being able to get titled. It would be a DIY dream. The way it’s said is misleading. Turning a 2000W DIY e-bike street legal isn’t possible because you need an MCO for a title.
They kids need to learn that when “you play stupid games you win stupid prizes” I had to learn the hard way many times growing up and boy did it straighten me out. I used to rip my dirt bike around town until they caught me and took my bike and give me some tickets. I ended up broke with no dirtbike afterwards…. It was a hard lesson I learned that day! Dont play with fire because you will always get burned.
+5 Florida does not require motorcycle insurance to register or operate a bike. However, you must carry at least $10,000 in medical benefits coverage if you are 21 or older and want to ride without a helmet. Additionally, if you cause an accident, you are financially liable for all damages. While carrying a policy isn't mandated by the state, the Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles (FLHSMV) notes that you must be able to prove financial responsibility (via insurance, a surety bond, or a certificate of self-insurance) if you are involved in a crash that causes injuries or property damage to others.
Class 1, pedal assist, 20 mph max, class 2, throttle 20mph max, class 3, 28 mph max and register with city hall or police.
Even this officer’s explanation could have been worded MUCH more clearly. Class 1 e-bikes receive motor “assist” proportional to the pedal input from the rider and assist is cut off at 20mph Class 2 e-bikes have a throttle and receive motor assist proportional to pedal input from rider and assist is cut off at 20mph Class 3 e-bikes receive motor assist proportional to pedal input from rider and assist is cut off at 28mph. Laws vary on class 3 relative to a throttle state by state. Anything over 28mph is a e-motorcycle and is no different than a ICE powered motor vehicle and MUST have all DOT required equipment. People are typically breaking virtually every traffic law written in terms of physically were they are riding all the above. You have to consult local laws on that. The single biggest problem is literally children riding e-motorcycles, Surons and similar brands which are throttle only 45-50mph, with no license, no tag, no insurance, no registration, no DOT equipment of any kind in the vehicle travel lanes as if they were a legit vehicle. The reason they have none of the proper equipment is because the vehicles were only built for offroad and private property yet parents are very ignorantly buying them for kids like they are bicycles.
I respectfully disagree with that interpretation. Florida law does not state that an e-bike automatically becomes an electric motorcycle simply because it exceeds 28 mph. Under Florida Statute § 316.003, an electric bicycle is defined as a bicycle with fully operable pedals, a seat or saddle, and an electric motor of less than 750 watts that meets one of three classes. A Class 3 e-bike is one where the motor provides assistance only while pedaling and ceases to provide assistance at 28 mph. (Florida Senate) The statute also expressly states that an electric bicycle is not a motorcycle. The definition of “motorcycle” specifically excludes electric bicycles. (Florida Senate) What the law says is that a Class 3 e-bike’s motor assistance must stop at 28 mph. It does not say that the moment a bicycle travels faster than 28 mph, it automatically becomes a motorcycle or automatically requires insurance. If a vehicle has been modified so that it no longer meets Florida’s legal definition of an electric bicycle—for example, because it exceeds the statutory specifications—it may no longer qualify as an e-bike under the law. However, that is a separate legal analysis. There is no sentence in Florida Statutes that states, “Any e-bike over 28 mph is automatically a motorcycle and must be insured.
You are not legally required to have insurance in Florida
I wonder what class is 10kw = 85mph
our kid wants an Ebike.
I used to ride faster on my regular road bike. Would that constitute my road bike illegal?
A motor cycle endorsement lol so these kids might as well get a motorcycle
