Florida has become the first state in the country to impose item-level restrictions on how welfare cash assistance can be spent, blocking Temporary Cash Assistance funds loaded onto EBT cards from being used on tattoos, vaping products, theme park admission, video games and a range of other purchases deemed non-essential.
Governor Ron DeSantis announced the amended state plan on August 24, 2026, governing Florida’s Temporary Cash Assistance program, which is funded through the federal Temporary Assistance for Needy Families program. Under the new rules, cash assistance can no longer go toward tobacco and nicotine products, vaping devices, drugs or other intoxicants, p*rnography, tattoos and body piercings, tanning and spa services, video games, entertainment subscriptions, theme park admission, or psychic and fortune-telling services. The restrictions apply at the point of sale, requiring retailers to integrate software blocks preventing barred items from being purchased with the benefit cards.
DeSantis framed the move as a matter of accountability, saying that taxpayer-funded assistance should help families put food on the table, keep the lights on, purchase clothing, provide for their children and overcome barriers on the path toward independence. The changes do not reduce the amount of aid eligible households receive; Florida says the average family in the cash-assistance program gets approximately $250 a month, with the overhaul focused solely on where that money can go. The state had already barred EBT cards from being used for alcohol, casinos and adult entertainment establishments.
The Department of Health and Human Services’ Administration for Children and Families approved Florida’s updated plan, with officials describing the changes as “common-sense restrictions” on inappropriate and non-essential purchases. The Trump administration is now encouraging other states to adopt similar item-specific limits on their own cash-assistance programs, though fact-checkers have noted that while Florida is the first to enforce such restrictions at checkout, other states already block comparable purchases through different mechanisms.

Oxford University researcher Dr. Paul Kelley found that forcing people to start work before 10am causes measurable physiological stress, disrupting the body’s natural circadian rhythm and elevating cortisol levels significantly. He presented the findings to the British Science Association and called early start times a form of systematic social jet lag.

He argued that starting work at 10am would improve productivity, mental health, and physical wellbeing across the board. The nine-to-five schedule was designed around factory shifts, not human biology.

A man dressed as the Grim Reaper climbed onto the roof of a Welsh hospital and stood there for fifty minutes, looking down at the people arriving below. On 6 June, Leon Gillespie, 26, from Deganwy, got onto the walkway above the main entrance at Glan Clwyd hospital in Denbighshire in a hooded black outfit. Witnesses thought he was holding a long blade. Four police cars and a fire engine were sent, and negotiators were called before he came down a ladder.

He was charged with causing a nuisance or disturbance on NHS premises without reasonable excuse, an offence that carries a fine rather than a prison sentence. At Llandudno Magistrates’ Court on 29 July he pleaded guilty and was fined 200 pounds, with 100 pounds in costs. He also admitted stealing cat food and cat litter from a Pets at Home in Llandudno, and food and drink from a Sainsbury’s in the same town, and was ordered to pay compensation for those.

The detail that changes how the story reads came from the bench. District judge Gwyn Jones told him it was clear he had been going through mental health issues at the time. Gillespie had, in fact, been detained under the Mental Health Act for nearly a fortnight, ten days after the incident on the roof.

The hospital board said afterwards that it has a zero-tolerance approach to abuse, aggression or nuisance on its sites, which is understandable when the people below that roof were patients, visitors and staff arriving for work. Court reports also described the outfit as looking less like the Grim Reaper and more like a crow. No explanation for the stunt was offered in court.

An idea for an app that would let people upload their unpaid bills so that “bored billionaires” can swipe right and cover them has gone viral on X, spreading widely enough that a software developer has now announced he is building it.
The concept traces back to a post from X user La-Ndlovu, who wrote that there should be an app where you upload your bills and bored billionaires swipe right to pay them. The post, shared under the handle @destiny_ndlovu, quickly drew attention for turning the familiar swipe-based format of dating apps into a tool for direct, person-to-person charity, with one reply comparing it to Tinder for charity.
The idea did not stay theoretical for long. A day after the original post, La-Ndlovu announced that Denis Kasala, of a company called Kasala Technologies, had taken up the concept and begun building it into a working product. La-Ndlovu wrote that an idea born on X was turning into something that could genuinely change people’s lives.
The pitch has since spread beyond its original platform, resurfacing on Threads and in local commentary elsewhere, including a column in El Paso referencing the same premise of uploading mortgages, car payments and utility bills for billionaires to pay off. No launch date, funding details or verification process for the app have yet been made public, and it remains unclear how donors would be matched with bill-payers or how claims of need would be checked before a payment is made.

Today is the final day of this week’s peak King Tides in Hallandale Beach.
High tide arrives at 10:30 a.m. at 3.7 feet, so low-lying streets, driveways, and parking areas may still see standing water this morning. Tides ease slightly over the next couple of days, but a little extra water is still possible through Oct. 30.
If you’re heading out, avoid driving through flooded streets. Saltwater can damage your vehicle, and water is often deeper than it looks.
Mark your calendar for the next peak windows:
November 5 – 11 (3.3 ft – 3.4ft)
November 24-26 (3.0ft – 3.6ft)
Thanksgiving morning peaks can reach 3.6ft, so plan ahead if you’re traveling or hosting.

Violent ocean swells battered Florida-based cruise ships sailing between Port Canaveral and the Bahamas this week, sending pool water cascading across open decks and forcing some cruise lines to alter itineraries.
https://www.fox35orlando.com/news/saw-tidal-waves-massive-waves-rock-florida-cruise-ships-sailing-from-port-canaveral

Living on a cruise ship for an extended period has become an alternative lifestyle for some retirees who prefer travel, housekeeping services and ready access to restaurants and entertainment over traditional retirement arrangements.
Cruise fares can sometimes bundle accommodation, meals, cleaning and activities into one payment, making the overall cost worth comparing with the expenses of maintaining a home or living in a care facility.
However, the financial appeal depends heavily on the cruise line, cabin type, itinerary, healthcare needs and length of stay.
Additional costs can include medical treatment, insurance, gratuities, internet access, laundry and transport between ships.
The story became widely known in 2023, when Australian couple Marty and Jess Ansen revealed that they had booked 51 consecutive cruises with Princess Cruises.
They began their journey aboard the Coral Princess on June 16, 2022, and spent more than 450 days at sea.
Their decision was not simply about saving money.
The couple had enjoyed cruising for decades and preferred the lifestyle, which included entertainment, social activities, prepared meals and daily cabin cleaning.

Norwegian Aqua Haven Suite – A Serious Privacy Issue Future Guests Should Know About
First-time cruiser here, so go a little easy on me!
We chose the Norwegian Aqua out of Miami because the departure port and dates worked perfectly for us, and we liked the idea of sailing on a relatively new ship. We also decided to splurge on a Haven suite because we wanted our first cruise to be something special.
We booked through a cruise travel agent, whom I won’t identify, although I will say they were pretty much useless once we made our final payment.
First, let me say that we’re having a fantastic time overall. In fact, we’re still onboard as I write this. I absolutely believe The Haven is worth the extra money for several reasons, but I’ll save that discussion for another post.
Unfortunately, we’ve encountered one issue that I consider both incredible and completely unacceptable: the lack of privacy in our cabin due to its location and the layout of the neighboring balcony.
We’re staying in Haven suite 12822. Despite doing considerable research and speaking with our travel agent before booking, we had absolutely no idea that this particular cabin sits in what I would describe as an inside corner of the ship.
Here’s the problem: The neighboring cabin, which I believe is 12822, is positioned at approximately a 90-degree angle to ours. Because of this unusual configuration, guests sitting on their balcony can look directly into our suite.
And I’m not talking about someone catching a glimpse through a window. From their balcony, our neighbors have a clear view of nearly the entire interior of our cabin, including our bed and the bathroom door.
We are paying a substantial premium for a luxury Haven suite, yet the people next door can sit on their balcony and look directly into our bedroom.
Also but not as big of a deal, the positioning of the neighboring cabin also obstructs part of the view from our own balcony.
I find it crazy that NCL sells this particular suite without clearly disclosing the unusual layout, the compromised privacy, and the partially obstructed balcony view. Had we known about these issues beforehand, we absolutely would have selected a different cabin.
Again, we’re thoroughly enjoying the Norwegian Aqua and The Haven experience overall and we are planning on sailing on this ship again. This isn’t intended to criticize the entire cruise. But I wanted to share our experience so that others considering this particular suite can make an informed decision.
My advice to anyone booking Haven suite 12822: Be very aware of the balcony configuration and the serious lack of privacy before committing to this cabin.
Has anyone else experienced a similar issue on the Aqua or another NCL ship?

🚨 MIAMI CRUISE CHAOS! THREE SHIPS DELAYED! 🚢🌊

Severe weather disrupted PortMiami on Tuesday, October 27, leaving three major cruise ships waiting offshore for hours!

🚢 Norwegian Joy — delayed
🚢 Norwegian Getaway — delayed
🚢 Queen Elizabeth — delayed
🚢 Mein Schiff 1 — skipped Miami entirely!

The three ships eventually arrived approximately 6–7 hours late as powerful winds and rough seas disrupted port operations.

With waves reaching 9–14 feet, passengers faced delayed disembarkation, postponed boarding, and potential travel complications.

💬 HERE’S THE BIG QUESTION:

If your cruise returned 7 hours late and you missed your flight home, who should be responsible for the additional costs — the cruise line, airline, or passenger?#cruise #cruiser #cruisers #cruiselife #cruiseship

Is the cruise drink package worth it? 🍹

On Carnival, Cheers! starts at $69.95 per person, per day when you buy before you sail. Add the 20% service charge and it’s about $83.94 a day.

Royal Caribbean’s Deluxe package generally runs $63 to $89 a day. Norwegian’s Ultimate is around $99 a day plus gratuity.

With cocktails at $10 to $15 each, it all comes down to one number: how many drinks you actually have in a day.

Here’s how to tell if it pays off for you 👇

Cruise Drink Packages: Should You Buy One?

Find a rubber duck hiding somewhere on your cruise ship? 🦆🚢

You might think it’s just a cute little souvenir… but there’s actually a whole cruise tradition behind these ducks, and not everyone knows what they’re supposed to do when they find one.

🇫🇷 The French Senate has passed the “Rioters Pay” bill, making rioters financially liable for damages during public demonstrations.

They can be ordered to pay up to €10,000 ($11,000) for property damage, even if they did not personally commit the vandalism.

Liability covers anyone who “knowingly participated” in a group formed to vandalize, or who stayed after two police dispersal warnings.

Social media platforms must remove content inciting violence, vandalism, or insurrection within 24 hours of an authority request, or face blocking and delisting.

To recover unpaid damages, the state can seize parts of social benefits, including family allowances, housing assistance, supplements, and France’s minimum-income benefit.

Fort Lauderdale streets are flooding with saltwater, and there’s no hurricane making landfall. 🌊⚠️

That’s what makes this week’s king tides so concerning for South Florida residents.

In late October 2026, unusually high tides combined with coastal conditions have pushed water over seawalls, through drainage systems, and into low-lying neighborhoods.

Some waterfront streets have been left underwater, with cars surrounded by floodwater and docks disappearing beneath the rising tide.

📍 Where is flooding being reported?

Areas around Riviera Isles Drive and Solar Plaza Drive are among the Fort Lauderdale locations experiencing significant tidal flooding.

And this isn’t simply rainwater collecting after a storm.

King tides are exceptionally high tides that can cause coastal flooding even on sunny days.

When ocean levels rise high enough, saltwater can enter streets through canals, storm drains, and overtopped seawalls.

Strong onshore winds can make the situation worse by pushing additional water toward the coast.

🚨 Why is this especially concerning?

Flooding can block neighborhood roads, damage vehicles, affect waterfront properties, and make everyday travel difficult.

Even stormwater pumps can struggle when surrounding waterways are already at unusually high levels.

The City of Fort Lauderdale is monitoring conditions and encouraging residents to prepare for additional high tides.

📅 Remaining predicted king tide periods in 2026:

• October 24–31
• November 5–11
• November 22–28
• December 24–25

These are predicted periods of elevated tides, not guarantees that every neighborhood will flood.

⚠️ Residents should avoid driving through flooded streets, protect vehicles from saltwater exposure, and follow official city alerts.

For people who have lived in South Florida for decades, these scenes raise an important question about the future of waterfront communities.

Fort Lauderdale locals, have you ever seen tidal flooding this severe in your neighborhood? Which streets are being affected?

Florida is one of the worst states for residents searching for a job, according to a new WalletHub study. https://www.wfla.com/news/florida/florida-is-one-of-the-worst-states-for-jobs-survey-shows/

“The cat is out of the bag and it’s only going to keep spreading.”

Dengue is spreading in Florida, and the mosquitoes that carry it now live as far north as Virginia.

As a result, the CDC has activated a Level 3 emergency response for dengue in Florida, its eighth emergency activation of 2026.

Florida has logged 425 locally acquired dengue cases this year, meaning people caught the virus from mosquitoes in Florida rather than while traveling, as of the state’s weekly report through Oct. 17. Most are around Tampa: Hillsborough County has 346 and neighboring Pinellas has 51, with cases now in 11 counties.

That is more than double Florida’s previous record of just under 200 local cases in 2023, and MedPage Today reports it is the largest outbreak in the continental US since 1935. CDC experts say most cases involve DENV-2, one of dengue’s four types, and 47% of reported patients needed hospital care. One death, an elderly Tampa woman, was reported in September.

Dengue, sometimes called breakbone fever, spreads through the bite of Aedes mosquitoes. Most infections cause no symptoms, so experts say the official count is only the tip of the iceberg.

A second infection with a different type raises the risk of severe dengue, which can cause internal bleeding and shock. There is no dengue vaccine licensed for general use in the US, so the best protection is repellent, long sleeves and getting rid of standing water around your home. Hillsborough and Pinellas counties have extended their states of emergency through Oct. 29.

“The cat is out of the bag and it’s only going to keep spreading,” said dengue expert Adam Waickman of SUNY Upstate Medical University.

Drinking alcohol—especially beer—acts as a double blow to male hormones by actively transforming testosterone into estrogen while blocking the body’s ability to clear it out. Alcohol directly stimulates the aromatase enzyme, which accelerates the chemical conversion of testosterone into estradiol. At the same time, because the liver must prioritize clearing the toxic alcohol from your system, excess estrogen backs up in the bloodstream rather than being filtered out. When you choose beer, this hormonal shift is compounded by hops and barley, which are packed with potent plant-based phytoestrogens that mimic estrogen in the body, creating a biological environment that can lead to increased fat storage, fatigue and muscle loss over time.

Dosage and frequency are everything. Having one or two casual drinks occasionally will not throw your entire endocrine system out of whack or cause dramatic physical changes. The shift toward “estrogen dominance”—which can cause symptoms like reduced sex drive, increased fat storage, and gynecomastia (development of breast tissue)—is primarily a risk associated with heavy, chronic, or regular binge drinking.

Overindulging in alcohol delivers a systemic blow to the male body, disrupting reproductive, metabolic, cardiovascular, and cognitive health. As stated above, occasional drinking has manageable effects, but chronic or heavy alcohol consumption forces the body to prioritize clearing toxins over vital physiological maintenance, leading to widespread long-term damage. Check out the comments for the full health impacts 😭

200 Passengers on a “Cruise for Life” Were Put Off the Ship in Cambodia Due to Rising Fuel Costs

American company Villa Vie Residences has unexpectedly suspended operations of its cruise ship Odyssey, two years after the start of its round-the-world voyage. Passengers were given just seven hours to pack their belongings and leave the ship during a stop in Sihanoukville, Cambodia, according to AFP.

The cruise had been marketed as an “endless voyage,” allowing people to buy or lease cabins for vacations or even for the rest of their lives. Some passengers sold all their possessions in order to live on board permanently.

American passenger Randy Cassingham and his wife spent about $1 million on the journey and planned to live on the ship for at least 15 years. Over the past two years, they visited 65 countries. Despite the sudden end to the voyage, Cassingham says he does not regret the decision.

“If they can resume operations, we would consider returning,” AFP quoted him as saying.

The company said it halted operations because of a sharp increase in fuel prices following the outbreak of war with Iran. According to Villa Vie, monthly fuel expenses per cabin rose from approximately $1,800 to between $6,000 and $8,000.

One passenger claimed that travelers were simply dropped off in the city center and left on their own, without even a list of recommended hotels. Villa Vie, however, maintains that it is assisting passengers in finding temporary accommodations.

Two missed ports due to protests and weather
But lovely food, plenty of drink and great company.
Here’s a lovely photo of our penultimate night at sea from the 12th deck balcony.

That last-night hallway lineup of suitcases is peak cruise reality. You stand by your cabin door, staring at your bags like they are the end credits of a very fun movie.
You pat each handle, check the tags, and wonder why you packed three different beach hats but only two shirts. The porthole shows one last calm sea and your brain runs through a checklist of souvenirs, chargers, and whether you can sneak in a final slice of cake.
Someone will forget a tag, someone else will attempt to smuggle a pillow, and the elevators will suddenly host competitive Tetris champions. It is equal parts organized chaos and slow-motion goodbye to the ship that treated you well.
Enjoy that last sunrise, grab one more coffee, and accept that one suitcase is always mysteriously heavier than you remember.

Formal night has been a big part of cruising for decades, but not everyone agrees it still belongs on modern cruise vacations.
Some passengers love getting dressed up for an elegant evening, while others believe a relaxing holiday shouldn’t come with strict clothing expectations.
With cruise fares, specialty dining, and onboard extras already costing plenty, it’s understandable that travelers want more freedom to enjoy their vacation their own way.
Should cruise lines protect the tradition of formal night, or is it finally time to let passengers decide what dressing for dinner looks like?

A dinner on a cruise has its own reality filter. One minute you are picturing lobster, candlelight, and attentive service, and the next minute you are staring down a perfectly fine salmon and wondering where the romance went.
We have all been that couple who mentally upgraded to a fancy specialty restaurant while the waiter is still placing the bread basket. Expectations on board escalate fast, which is half the fun and half the disappointment.
The trick is to treat every meal like an adventure. Book one night out, try the late-night buffet for pure chaos, and keep a backup plan of room service just in case. Above all, laugh with your dinner partner when the thought bubble does not match the plate.

England is bringing conversations about misogyny, respect, and healthy relationships into the classroom.
From September 2026, schools in England are following updated relationships and sex education guidance that places greater emphasis on consent, respect, sexism, misogyny, and harmful online influences.
The goal is to help boys recognize misogynistic attitudes, question harmful content they encounter online, and develop healthier views of women, girls, relationships, and masculinity.
The government has also announced a £16 million violence-prevention program designed to challenge harmful attitudes among young people before they develop into more serious behavior.
The move comes amid concerning survey findings: 50% of girls reported hearing misogynistic comments from other pupils in a single week, while 30% of students in Years 10 and 11 had recently heard comments that made them worry about girls’ safety.
Supporters believe schools have an important role in challenging harmful attitudes early and teaching young people to treat others with dignity and respect.
Do you support teaching children about misogyny and healthy masculinity in schools, or should these conversations primarily happen at home?

Some of the world’s most isolated Indigenous communities have responded defensively when outsiders approach their territories. In documented encounters, people have used traditional weapons toward approaching boats or aircraft as a clear warning to keep their distance.
One well-known example is the Sentinelese, who live on North Sentinel Island in India’s Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Similar encounters have also been reported among isolated communities in the Amazon. Their response is widely understood as an effort to protect their land, culture and traditional way of life from unwanted outside contact.
Contact can expose isolated populations to significant risks, including exploitation and unfamiliar illnesses. Today, protection efforts generally focus on respecting their decision to remain isolated and preventing unauthorized approaches. For these communities, staying separate can be an important way of protecting their people, traditions and future.

While attempting to leave the port of Bremerhaven, the cruise ship Mein Schiff 3, carrying 3,350 people on board, struck cargo vessels moored in the port due to a powerful gust of wind. As a result, the trip to the Canary Islands had to be canceled, and the liner was sent for repairs, AFP reported.

None of the 2,428 tourists and 922 crew members on board were injured. According to Bremen police, the smaller container ship sustained minor damage, while the larger one suffered “significant” damage. The cruise liner itself received “substantial damage” to its lifeboats, cranes, and hull plating.

Tour operator TUI Cruises emphasized that it regrets the cancellation of the cruise but called the decision “the only responsible one.” The water police are investigating the incident.

In a video recorded by an eyewitness — whose authenticity was confirmed by the dpa agency — the liner can be seen leaving the port accompanied by tugboats amid rough sea conditions. The distance to the container ship moored at the quay gradually decreases, after which the liner collides with it.

KING TIDES RISE ALONG BOTH U.S. COASTS AS FULL MOON DRIVES COASTAL FLOOD THREAT
A powerful FULL MOON is bringing unusually high KING TIDES to BOTH U.S. coastlines, with some of the highest water levels expected over the next 48 to 72 hours.
Coastal flood alerts are in effect from California to portions of the Atlantic coast, where rising seawater threatens low-lying roads, neighborhoods and waterfront communities.
Parts of California could see tides nearly 2 FEET above normal, while portions of Florida and Georgia face coastal flooding up to 3.5 FEET above normally dry ground during peak high tides!

An extra hour of sleep is coming for Americans this weekend as clocks shift back to standard time. Even though you gain an hour, the change can still disrupt your internal clock. Your body usually needs three to five days to fully adjust. Here are simple steps to make the transition easier:

Before the time change:
• Go to bed 15–20 minutes earlier for a couple of nights.
• Get bright outdoor light within the first hour after waking.
• Reduce blue‑light exposure from screens late in the evening.

On the day of the time change:
• Wake up at your usual time.
• Eat breakfast a little earlier to help reset your rhythm.
• Spend 20–30 minutes in strong morning sunlight.
• Exercise earlier in the day.

After the time change:
• Keep a consistent sleep schedule every day.
• Avoid long naps; if needed, keep them under 20 minutes.
• Dim indoor lights 1–2 hours before bedtime.
• Limit caffeine after 2 PM.
• Use a calming nighttime routine like stretching, reading, or a warm shower.

These small adjustments help your body align with the new schedule and reduce grogginess, early‑evening tiredness, and sleep disruption.

Robert Downey Jr. once described Mel Gibson as the friend who “kept a roof over my head” when Hollywood had turned its back on him.

After Downey was released from prison, his struggles with addiction made him difficult to insure, leaving major studios reluctant to hire him. Gibson stepped in and reportedly paid the insurance bond that allowed Downey to star in The Singing Detective.

Years later, Gibson presented Downey with a career achievement award in front of Hollywood. During his speech, Downey expressed his gratitude, saying, “He kept a roof over my head and put food on my table.”

Their friendship is a powerful reminder that you discover who your real friends are when life falls apart. When you lose your job, face illness, or go through your darkest moments, the people who stay by your side reveal their true character.

For Downey, Gibson was one of those rare friends who stood by him when much of Hollywood had given up on him.

Sometimes, the friend who helps you rebuild your life is the one you never forget.

Scientists have developed an experimental, injectable gel designed to act like a tiny water cushion inside a worn-out spinal disc. As we age, our spinal discs can dry up and flatten out like deflated tires, which pinches nearby nerves and causes chronic back pain. Instead of just masking that pain with pills, this bio-engineered hydrogel is injected straight into the disc to instantly re-inflate it, restoring its healthy height and absorbing daily shocks.

While this sounds like a total cure, it is important to know that this technology is still mostly in early laboratory testing and specialized clinical trials. Because our spinal discs do not have their own blood supply, it is very difficult for the body to naturally repair them. While this gel successfully creates a helpful structure for cells to grow on, it is not yet available at your local doctor’s office. Make sure to double-check the facts with a medical professional before pausing any current treatments!

42 years ago today, “The Terminator” hit theaters, and Arnold Schwarzenegger said three little words that became movie history: “I’ll be back.” Made for about $6.4 million, it turned a young director named James Cameron into a star and made Arnold the biggest action hero in the world.

Did you see “The Terminator” in the theater?

Watching Terminator 2: Judgment Day today feels very different from watching it back in 1991.

In the film, Sarah Connor is confined to a psychiatric hospital because she warns that artificial intelligence will eventually become self-aware, control machines, and threaten humanity. Everyone dismisses her as unstable, but the audience knows she is trying to prevent a future catastrophe.

Her goal isn’t to stop all technological progress. She’s trying to prevent Cyberdyne Systems from developing the technology that will eventually give birth to Skynet.

Decades later, as AI becomes increasingly integrated into our daily lives, Sarah Connor’s warnings feel more relevant. What once seemed like science fiction now raises serious questions about the future of technology and humanity.

The real concern isn’t simply how powerful AI can become, but whether we have the wisdom to develop and control it responsibly.

We live in a world where competition, corporate profits, and the race for technological dominance can encourage companies to move faster than their ability to assess the risks. When technological progress outpaces our judgment, the consequences could be difficult to control.

Films like Terminator 2 have explored these dangers for decades. Although today’s AI is not Skynet, the questions the movie raises about responsibility, power, and human oversight remain worth considering.

The question is no longer whether AI belongs in our future. It’s whether we’ll develop it wisely enough to ensure that future remains in our hands.

FLORIDA KING TIDES! 🌊 New pictures coming in showing significant coastal flooding across the state right now, especially along the East Coast from Key West to Miami to Jacksonville due to greater astronomical tides, persistent windy weather and additional wave action. Tides have been running 1 – 3 feet above average, leading to flooding along roads, drains, neighborhoods and even businesses. If you have pictures, feel free to share as well.

🌊 Florida’s Space Coast is getting hammered, and officials are now telling people to stay off the sand entirely.

Strong northeast winds, pounding surf and surging king tides have triggered a wind advisory, high surf advisory and coastal flood warning along Central Florida’s Atlantic coast. The National Weather Service office in Melbourne says breaking waves of 7 to 12 feet are expected in the surf zone, with the warning in effect until 2 a.m. on October 28 for coastal Volusia, Indian River, St. Lucie and Martin counties, plus mainland northern and southern Brevard and the Brevard barrier islands. 🌴

Forecasters warn coastal roads could shut down, low lying homes, businesses and some critical infrastructure may be inundated, and significant shoreline erosion is likely, with the worst flooding expected around morning high tides as the king tides peak. In Satellite Beach, city officials closed every beach crossover after sand loss left dangerous drop-offs near the stairs, asking people to keep off the beaches and dunes until it is safe. A high rip current risk also remains in place. ⚠️

COASTAL THREAT ‼️: Record-breaking coastal flooding from the seasonal King Tides event has inundated parts of South Florida. Moderate and major coastal flooding is expected to continue, especially during high tide tomorrow morning.

105 YEARS AGO TODAY: TAMPA BAY’S WORST-CASE SCENARIO 🌀
On October 25, 1921, a powerful Category 3 hurricane slammed into the Tampa Bay area near Tarpon Springs with winds of 120 mph and a storm surge of 9–11 feet.
The storm caused widespread destruction, reshaped portions of our coastline, and left behind $10 million in damage. That was a lot for 1921.

Now imagine that same hurricane hitting Tampa Bay today.
With millions more people, densely populated coastal communities, high-rise condos, waterfront homes, and billions of dollars in infrastructure, the destruction could be catastrophic. Sadly, entire neighborhoods would be inundated by storm surge, with damage potentially reaching well over $100 billion.

The 1921 hurricane is a sobering reminder of just how vulnerable Tampa Bay remains to a direct hurricane strike.
105 years later, during a quiet hurricane season, we are reminded, despite how many storms have significantly affected the area, how lucky we have actually been. 🌀

Every commute, he switched on a jammer and cut off calls around him. It felt like justice. It was actually chaos: the signal didn’t stop at other cars. It bled into the network, interfering with emergency services and anyone else nearby.

Imagine booking a cruise and looking forward to relaxing in a peaceful adults-only pool or lounge, only to discover children playing in an area specifically reserved for passengers aged 18 and over.
For many travelers, these spaces are an important part of the cruise experience. They offer somewhere to unwind, read a book, enjoy a drink, or simply escape the noise and excitement of the family-friendly decks.
Some passengers believe adults-only rules should be strictly enforced without exceptions, while others think cruise staff should show flexibility, particularly when parents are only passing through or briefly entering with their children.
If a cruise line advertises an area as adults-only, should the crew enforce that rule every single time, regardless of the circumstances, or is there room for reasonable exceptions?

Tallahassee police are investigating a mass shooting that wounded a dozen people, including six juveniles, near Florida A&M University’s Bragg Memorial Stadium during the school’s homecoming weekend. Officers were called to the area of Perry Street and Manatee Street on the evening of October 24, 2026, hours after the Rattlers fell 31-28 to Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the homecoming game. Police Chief Lawrence Revell said 11 of the victims suffered gunshot wounds, while one more person was hurt during the incident, and at least three of the injuries were described as serious.
Investigators said a preliminary review points to a physical fight breaking out in the crowded area before the gunfire started. The university pushed out an alert telling people to avoid the scene or shelter in place, then said afterward that its campus remained safe while expressing sympathy for everyone affected. No arrests had been announced in the hours following the shooting, and the department’s Violent Crimes Unit is still working to identify those responsible.

It’s crazy how much 50 has changed in just a few decades. In 1985, it was common to see women that age with short gray hair and a classic mom look, and nobody thought twice about it.
Fast forward to today, and many 50-year-olds are walking red carpets with long dark hair, glowing skin and confidence to match. Some say it’s genetics and fitness, others say it’s filters, makeup and cosmetic work.
Which one do you think it is?

🚨 CRUISE TERMINAL BUST: AN ARIZONA SURGEON ALLEGEDLY PACKED MUSHROOM CHOCOLATE BARS FOR HIS CRUISE. HE NEVER MADE IT TO THE GANGWAY. AND HE WASN’T THE ONLY ONE.
Tuesday, October 20. PortMiami, Terminal B.
Three passengers. Same ship. Same day. Three arrests.
All three were trying to board Norwegian Jewel for a 5-night adults-only charter to Key West and Nassau. The sailing was called the “Temptation” cruise.
Federal officers named their operation “Operation Temptation.”
You can’t make this up.
When officers searched his luggage, they allegedly found that a 38-year-old orthopedic surgeon had packed THC gummies, MDMA gummies, pills and capsules, and psychedelic mushroom chocolate bars. He now faces three felony charges, including trafficking. He has pleaded not guilty and asked for a jury trial. His attorney says the amounts are overstated because the products are mostly sugar and water.
His hospital back home says it is “taking the allegations seriously.”
The other two were women, ages 57 and 51, from Ohio and Illinois. Officers allegedly found THC gummies and vapes. Each now faces a felony possession charge.
There’s no sign the three knew each other. They weren’t working together. They just made the same bad bet at the same terminal on the same morning.
Here’s where it gets heated. THC is legal in Arizona. But “legal back home” means nothing at a cruise port, and Norwegian lists it as the #1 item you cannot bring onboard. All three could also be banned from sailing with the line in the future.
All three are presumed innocent until proven guilty.
So be honest. Would you still go under the knife with a surgeon who allegedly packed mushroom bars and THC gummies for his vacation? Or is what a doctor does on his time off none of our business?

Health officials are investigating the transmissions.

WHAT IF WE REIMAGINED YOUNG CIRCLE? 🌴⛲️

We recently published an in-depth Substack article examining what the downtown retail strategy recommended to help revive downtown Hollywood. One idea we discussed was making Young Circle more connected to downtown — and we couldn’t agree more!

But why stop there? Why not take it one step further?

💡 Imagine rerouting US-1 to the eastern side of Young Circle, creating a redesigned two-way roadway that moves traffic around the park without forcing drivers to navigate the entire circle.

🌳 On the western side, imagine transforming that space into an expanded green corridor that flows seamlessly into Hollywood Boulevard, connecting ArtsPark with the heart of downtown.

⛲️ And while we’re reimagining the space, let’s remove that broken fountain and replace it with two beautiful, fully functioning fountains that give people a reason to stop, gather, and enjoy the surroundings.

More green space. Better pedestrian connections. Beautiful public spaces. A downtown that feels connected rather than divided by traffic.

This is a conceptual vision, not an approved city plan, and it would require serious traffic engineering and public input. But if the goal is to bring life back to downtown Hollywood, shouldn’t we be thinking bigger?

👇 What do YOU think? Should Hollywood explore rerouting US-1 and transforming Young Circle into a more connected, walkable public space? Tell us in the comments!

Women swimmers in Berlin can now go topless at the city’s public pools under the same rules as men, after the municipal pool operator Berliner Bäderbetriebe clarified its house rules following a discrimination complaint.

The case began in December 2022, when a 33-year-old woman was ordered to leave an indoor pool in the district of Reinickendorf because she was swimming topless, a restriction not applied to male swimmers. She filed a complaint with the ombudsperson’s office at Berlin’s Senate Department for Justice, Diversity and Anti-Discrimination, arguing that the pool’s own rules only required standard swimwear and contained no gender-specific requirement to cover the chest.

A spokeswoman for Berliner Bäderbetriebe said the house and bathing rules had not actually barred topless swimming for years, but acknowledged they had been interpreted differently depending on the pool and the guest. The operator has since confirmed that swimwear rules now apply equally regardless of gender, requiring only that primary s*xual organs be covered, with the female breast treated as a secondary s*xual characteristic.

Doris Liebscher, head of the Senate’s ombudsperson’s office, welcomed the clarification, saying it establishes “equal rights for all Berliners, whether male, female or non-binary,” and gives staff legal certainty. She added that going forward “it is important that the regulation is applied consistently and that no more expulsions or house bans are issued.”

The complaint followed a similar incident in the summer of 2021, when French woman Gabrielle Lebreton was ordered to leave a Berlin water park in Treptow-Köpenick after refusing to cover her chest while sunbathing with her five-year-old son. The rule change, first announced in March 2023, applies across the city’s indoor and open-air pools and saunas, including lounge areas, and remains in effect today.

Royal Caribbean has officially canceled the Bermuda itinerary for Independence of the Seas’ October 24, 2026, sailing, completely rerouting the ship to Saint John, New Brunswick, Canada instead.

Why the Change Happened

The sudden route change is due to the severe remnants of Subtropical Storm Josephine. The weather system triggered a massive gale warning along the East Coast, packing powerful winds up to 40 knots and producing rough waves of 7 to 9 feet. To ensure passenger safety and comfort, Royal Caribbean pulled the plug on the planned tropical stop. This would have been the ship’s final scheduled arrival of the season in Bermuda.

Key Details of the Rerouting

The New Plan: The ship is trading its warm-weather Bermuda beaches for an overnight stay in colder Saint John, New Brunswick (Canada).

The Trend: This isn’t an isolated incident. Independence of the Seas is actually the third Royal Caribbean ship to have its warm-weather itinerary drastically flipped to Canada within a single week due to this persistent East Coast weather system. Other affected ships included Vision of the Seas.

Short Notice: Many passengers received less than 48 hours’ notice before embarkation, prompting a wave of surprise as travelers realized they packed for warm weather but are now headed north.

Scientists made a paint so white it can keep a building cooler than the air around it, even under the midday sun.

Researchers at Purdue University created the whitest paint on record. It reflects 98.1% of sunlight, and it entered the Guinness World Records.

Normal white paint warms up in the sun. Even commercial heat-reflecting paints reflect only about 80 to 90% of sunlight and still absorb heat.

The secret is barium sulfate, a mineral packed into the paint at very high levels, with particles of different sizes to scatter almost every part of sunlight. It also sends heat out as infrared radiation into the sky.

In tests, painted surfaces stayed about 8°F cooler than the surrounding air under strong midday sun, and up to 19°F cooler at night.

The lead researcher estimates that covering a roof of around 1,000 square feet could give about 10 kilowatts of cooling, more than most home air conditioners, without using any electricity.

A coat of paint could one day do the job of an air conditioner.

Ever wondered what tennis rackets were made of before modern technology took over? 🎾🐄

Traditional tennis racket strings were often made from natural gut, commonly sourced from cow intestines. The material became popular because of its excellent elasticity, feel and ability to maintain tension, helping players achieve powerful shots and better control. Today, most players use synthetic strings, although natural gut remains a premium option among some professionals.

🦟 Florida’s dengue outbreak has nearly doubled in the month since three counties declared states of emergency, with statewide cases climbing from 392 to 721 according to CDC data.

Hillsborough County, which includes Tampa, remains the center of the outbreak, with cases there rising from 177 to 352. New infections have also been reported in Orange, Broward and Miami-Dade counties.

A University of Florida biostatistician and infectious disease modeler said the continued spread was a matter of time, pointing to climate change increasing mosquito populations and lengthening their active seasons. He emphasized the importance of public campaigns to eliminate breeding sites, noting mosquitoes reproduce in small pools of standing water including tires and plastic containers. Cooler, drier weather could slow transmission, but he cautioned any relief may be temporary. If temperatures and rainfall climb again, he said, the outbreak will return.

People ask me all the time if they can take garden gummies with them. First, they aren’t legal everywhere. Second maritime law overrides land laws on the ship and garden gummies and other substances are a big no no. Yes I hear of people getting on ships and getting away with it. I personally wouldn’t try it.

🌊 No rain. No Strom. But water is still flooding streets in Key West, Florida ! 😳

This is what happens when king tides push seawater higher than normal.

In Key West, rising tidal water has been spilling onto streets, creating flooding even without rainfall.

And that’s what makes these events so surprising.

You can have sunshine overhead, dry skies, and still find seawater creeping across the road.

It’s known as high-tide or sunny-day flooding, and it’s a growing concern for low-lying coastal communities.

🌊 King tides are exceptionally high tides that can occur when the gravitational pull of the sun and moon combines to produce higher-than-usual water levels.

In places like the Florida Keys, those elevated tides can send water onto roads and into low-lying areas.

And when strong onshore winds are added to the mix, flooding can become even worse.

For residents, this isn’t just an unusual sight.

It can mean flooded streets, difficult travel and saltwater reaching places that normally stay dry.

📍 Key West, Florida

⚠️ If you encounter a flooded road, avoid driving through it. Saltwater can damage vehicles, and the depth may be difficult to judge.

❤️ FLORIDA RESIDENTS, WE WANT TO HEAR FROM YOU:

Have you ever seen streets flood when there wasn’t a drop of rain?

And if you live in Key West or the Florida Keys, how high has the water reached in your neighborhood?
