🌊 Florida’s Space Coast is getting hammered, and officials are now telling people to stay off the sand entirely.
Strong northeast winds, pounding surf and surging king tides have triggered a wind advisory, high surf advisory and coastal flood warning along Central Florida’s Atlantic coast. The National Weather Service office in Melbourne says breaking waves of 7 to 12 feet are expected in the surf zone, with the warning in effect until 2 a.m. on October 28 for coastal Volusia, Indian River, St. Lucie and Martin counties, plus mainland northern and southern Brevard and the Brevard barrier islands. 🌴
Forecasters warn coastal roads could shut down, low lying homes, businesses and some critical infrastructure may be inundated, and significant shoreline erosion is likely, with the worst flooding expected around morning high tides as the king tides peak. In Satellite Beach, city officials closed every beach crossover after sand loss left dangerous drop-offs near the stairs, asking people to keep off the beaches and dunes until it is safe. A high rip current risk also remains in place. ⚠️
