We are so spoiled by television shows and movies about law enforcement, where the main protagonist can disarm an out-of-shape woman like this in three seconds. Instead, well, we saw what happened... Sad all around.

“Grab her?” I’m a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu competitor and coach - a supposed “expert” on grabbing people to neutralize them. But I’m not grabbing a deranged person with more than one knife who has already stabbed two people - killing one - if there is any other option. She had threatened to kill the police as well. She actually SAID “I’d rather kill you” when asked to put down the knives before running at them. They had tased her twice to little effect. While I understand the Mom’s sentiments as a parent, the police did absolutely nothing wrong here and in fact did everything right.

Would the Mom try to tackle her heavy daughter from behind while she had those knives in both hands? Probably not..

Mom should have been there and tried to grab her as she lunged at People with a knife. You can't make this stuff up.

maybe because she stabbed 2 people and threatened she was going to kill them too? I’m sorry if that makes to much sense for you. I truly am heartbroken for the entire situation. There was never going to be a great outcome. The woman belonged in a place that offered her the proper care. As a country we should be addressing mental health more, as a State we need to do better and as humans we need to understand that officers aren’t Superpowers. They are trained Humans who happen to have a gun. At the end of the day they have lives and families to protect also. Being a cop doesn’t make you an end all br all. This was exactly what it is, a very delegate and sad situation that ended in tragedy. Look for blame where it belongs. The cops aren’t to blame here.

Always with the what ifs.. what if she didn’t carry around knives stabbing innocent people.. how about that

Since we are asking the police why they can’t grab knives pointed towards them, why couldn’t she control her daughter? Oh, that is right—because it’s not logical. Sad situation all around. The police did all they could to. Period

Mother doesn't know police protocol. It's vocal warning to drop the weapon, then taser, then possible shooting of suspect. That's why they wear body cams. No police officer will attempt to grab a knife out of someone's hand.

Which arm should they have grabbed? The one holding a knife or the other one holding a knife?

I get the mom wished her daughter was saved but unfortunately she was beyond helping

Well, the question is, would you lunge At somebody with a big old knife, coming at you? probably not.

ecause she was whipping those knives like a Ninja chopper…and police have a protocol for defensive maneuvers.

Don't bring a knife, act aggressive toward people holding guns. Easy.

The real question that no one is asking is, what happened to her medication? Was she taking it or not? And if she was taking it, how come it didn’t work? Who is the doctor that is prescribing her meds? When was her last check up? Not justifying what she did, but look at the two photos, she gained a hell of a lot of weight and looks totally different.

The SAME system that will not help people who have ongoing mental health illnesses is the SAME system that will kill you when you are out of control AND make you the horrible person. As a result, innocent people are killed/harmed in the process, like that young woman. That lady was clearly not in her right mind just stabbing random people and then she out there doing moves like she’s kung fu wu. She had already killed someone so I’m sure taking it easy wasn’t an option in that moment. This scenario is nothing new and it’s very unfortunate.
