A duck was raised by eagles after being delivered to the wrong nest.
On February 12, 2025, a nest camera showed a mother eagle sitting on two eggs when her mate suddenly returned carrying a third, unfamiliar egg. No one knew where it came from. Even the mother hesitated, tilting her head as if confused — but instead of rejecting it, she gently pulled it under her body and kept it warm with the others.
When the first egg hatched, viewers were stunned.
It wasn’t an eagle.
It was a duckling.
A week later, the two eagle chicks hatched beside it. Many assumed the duckling wouldn’t survive long in a nest full of predators. But the mother eagle never treated it as prey. She treated it as her own.
Fifteen weeks later, the same camera showed all three young birds still together — the duck growing up right alongside the eaglets like a sibling. Researchers were amazed to see the mother eagle bringing back fish and softer foods, almost as if she instinctively understood the duckling couldn’t eat the same diet as her raptors.
Now everyone watching is waiting for the next unbelievable moment.
The juvenile eagles will soon take their first flight.
But the question remains:
How will the duck get down from the nest?
