So is the state of Florida gonna have to pay put up speed limit signs for these bikes and E bike things
you guys need to start figuring this out before you sign this crap in the law who’s gonna pay for the speed limit signs?
There needs to be more than that. Ban them for minors under 18
Should be banned
We have kids under 15 driving this E bike and going fast without helmet where I live.
There’s always an agenda and it’s definitely not these bikes. You don’t get reports of them running over people running into vehicles or people dying but now here comes a bill proposing taxes and fees. Duh idiots when do you wake up and realize when a door is opened they never close. This is an attack on the less fortunate who cannot afford vehicles. So now they’ll pay the taxes that our government is proposing to cut smh
So, are they mandating that paths and other riding venues have markers painted on them to help gauge distances, or are bike riders expected to be better than most people at determining what 50 feet looks like while riding? Is it 50 feet in all directions, a complete circle around a bike? What if a pedestrian enters the path behind me and I don't know it? Or, what if they are off to the side on a trail that will join my trail, but in my line of sight? Ambiguous rules like these, made up by politicians and nannies, do no good for safety, but make these people feel important and proud. Do these rules apply to all bicycles, or only e-bikes. What about bikes without a speedometer, how will they know if they are over, or under 10 mph? I can't wait for this fad for hating on e-bikes (mostly because of children in neighborhoods without supervision, more so than riders on the shared trails) to come to its end.
These are common sense rules and already followed by most adults on actual e bikes. The dangerous part is the "task force" which the karens, elitists and e bike haters will try to influence. We....as responsible e cyclists.....better speak up loudly or they will burden all of us with increasing restrictions.
Ban for all under 16.
Joe Joe What about the drunk Karen's in the golf carts
Make better bike lanes first then start complaining about speed limits infrastructure is key instead you guys rather build condos and pointless shopping blouses for our taxpayer dollars to go to law-enforcement to sit and do nothing all day but harass people there’s other stuff going on real crimes that need to be investigated not somebody’s way of transportation because gas prices are high
A better solution would be to hold the parents criminally and civilly liable for all damages and injuries caused by buying their kids these high powered E-bikes and turning them loose on the neighborhood.
People that ride regular bicycles don’t obey the traffic laws. What makes them think E bikes are going to. Really?
Is there a law that says bicyclists riding on trails (not roads) have to use hands free devices or stopped when engaging with a phone. I was almost hit by someone with one hand on the e-bike throttle and the other one holding the phone, talking on the speaker.
Can't even enforce keeping people off their phones while driving 60+ mph and you're gonna try this. That's hilarious
Speed limits are a recommendation, nothing more!
All E-bikes should be registered. This way you know who owns the bike and who to hold responsible like cars and motorcycles. The biggest problem is the kids not obeying traffic control devises and riding high speeds on sidewalks instead of bike lanes.
Good. They fly through crosswalks and intersections without looking, and a stop sign is apparently just a suggestion.
They need to be band. These kids and adults act like no cars are ever on the road
The cops don’t even enforce the roads you could drive all over. You don’t see any hogs driving around patrolling. They use flock cameras instead to auto ticket and cameras to auto ticket because they are nonexistent.
Old news. This is just a battle between people with kids and people without kids. Get a grip people.
Big brother state,more laws
There cops everywhere in Florida Lol
Jay Dough I would much rather have a speed limit like say 28 mph and under in the bike lane then all of the ridiculous power wattage limits or capability limits that are currently imposed. For instance it must be difficult for cops to decide who has a bike with an illegal amount of power wattage. Unless they are traveling around with portable e-bike dynos inside of there patrol vehicles then they must just have to guess. The current rules are overly restrictive and ridiculous in my opinion. Making the rules more restrictive only punishes the people willing to follow the rules to begin with. I have absolutely no issue with them holding reckless riders accountable for reckless actions. Let's not blanket punish the entire community though. They don't punish the entire car community because of street racing yet with the e-bike community they are punishing everyone equally because of the reckless riders within the community. Put an age limit on it maybe 16/17 just like licenses. Under 18 must wear helmets. Anyone riding an e-bike must have an ID this way if you do get pulled over and the cop needs to write you a ticket he can identify you and write the proper person a ticket. I'm not advocating for lawlessness or riding in traffic I'm advocating for fairness.
Just say you were pedaling and the motor was off 🤟
While recent progress is encouraging, legislation alone is insufficient without mandatory safety training for students and their parents. Laws lack real-world impact if families remain unaware of safe operating procedures for micro-mobility vehicles. To ensure student safety, we must implement a dual approach: holding parents accountable for their children's driving behavior while simultaneously providing the necessary education to both parties before a child is permitted to commute to school.
Need to have license plates , and driver licenses.
There's some communities in the state that have already enacted their own laws in respect to e-bikes
I think enforcing a helmet law for under age 18 would be appropriate.
Hahaha, and who's going to enforce this 🤣
It makes no sense to not include nonpowered bikes in speed limits. Any speed limits or other restrictions need to be the same for powered and nonpowered bikes.
Put them on their parents insurance policy, wear helments under 18, maybe have permits to know the driving rules
