A new Florida law will require a mandatory life sentence without parole for anyone convicted of manslaughter in the death of a law enforcement officer.
Governor Ron DeSantis signed the Officer Jason Raynor Act on Tuesday, named after the Daytona Beach police officer who was fatally shot in the line of duty in 2021.
Supporters say the measure closes a gap in state law and ensures stronger penalties in cases involving the deaths of law enforcement officers. The law takes effect immediately.
