CAMACOL Celebrates Opening Day with the Miami Marlins ⚾️
March 27, 2026 — What a spectacular way to welcome the season!
The CAMACOL family—our President Joe Chi, Board of Directors, Trustees, and Benefactors—joined distinguished community leaders to celebrate Opening Day as the Miami Marlins faced the Colorado Rockies. And what a game it was… the Marlins won! 🎉
This gathering was also an opportunity to recognize and thank our valued partners. Our heartfelt appreciation to our CAMACOL Annual Christmas/Holiday Food Distribution sponsors, especially Pedro Mesa of Sedano’s Supermarkets, Chair of this important initiative, whose leadership continues to make a meaningful impact in our community, to PepsiCo for their continued support. We also recognize Yurandy Llenera, CAMACOL Vice President, who carries forward the legacy of our late President, Mario O. Gutierrez, who established this food distribution drive 48 years ago, to the Miami Marlins who make this distribution safe and efficient for all. As well to the @CityofMiamiPoliceDepartment.
It was truly a delightful gathering, bringing together friends and partners in an atmosphere that perfectly reflects the spirit of Miami—dynamic, diverse, and full of energy. We were especially honored by the presence of our dear friend, Ambassador Belén Alfaro, Consul General of Spain, whose support and friendship mean so much to us.
We were thrilled that our Marlins neighbors came by to say hello—and “hola.” Caroline O’Connor, President of Business for the Miami Marlins; Alfredo “Alfie” Mesa, Vice President of Public Affairs; Juan Martinez, Director of Events & Promotions and CAMACOL Board representative; and Issac Paladino, Manager of Business Development—who did a wonderful job helping bring this event together—represent an outstanding leadership team from this world-class organization, alongside other distinguished guests and valued partners who continue to support CAMACOL’s mission.
Adding to the international dimension of the evening, we welcomed the President of the Central Bank of Guatemala and the Minister of Finance, who—like all of us—enjoyed a relaxed evening of baseball, conversation, and yes… hot dogs and nachos, while exchanging ideas in the most authentic Miami setting. A delegation from South Korea also joined us, further strengthening the global connections that define CAMACOL.
The Miami Marlins—our neighbors and valued partners—once again reminded us that sports have a unique way of bringing people together across industries, cultures, and borders.
Our thanks as well to the CAMACOL team and volunteers, and a special shout-out to Joe Chi, President of CAMACOL, and his wife Mercy—always at the ready!
A wonderful evening, a winning team, and a community united. More pictures to come!
