Did you know? A 20-minute sauna session can make you sweat heavily, and research shows that sweat can carry certain substances out of the body, including trace amounts of heavy metals.
In one study, researchers collected sweat after 20 minutes of either treadmill exercise or sitting in a sauna. Nickel, lead, copper, and arsenic were detected in the sweat, although exercise actually produced higher concentrations of several of these metals than sauna exposure.
Other research has also detected toxic elements such as arsenic, cadmium, lead, and mercury in sweat following sauna exposure. Your body already relies heavily on the liver and kidneys to process and eliminate unwanted substances.
