Because the entitled, elitist, pretentious jerks who won't park their Mercedes beside other cars need to get over themselves and realize that they're not better than anyone else, nor is their precious car more important than anyone else's. It's just a car. I park my Subaru Crosstrek beside other cars. They can do the same. They're so obsessed with how their car looks, yet they don't realize how bad it looks to be a pretentious twat.
I had someone do that the other day at a store. I parked way away and there was nobody there but they parked right next to me
It's jealousy. I have had multiple door dings, a broken windshield, and drinks thrown on my cars. Some cars attract heat. I have found that not parking away from the herd results in less damage. It's bizarre.
I parked my car away from everyone else. It's a beater but I don't like dings in my door. As I'm walking slowly because I have a cane. These two young guys Park right next to my car close as they walk by me. They're laughing. They don't realize it's me. Who is the driver of the car? And the guy says I love messing with people like that. I like to tick them off. So in the star I stood 18 in away from the guy the whole time he'd move. I wouldn't say a word. He kept saying. Excuse me. It's a little guy. I'm over 6 ft tall. Not a bully but I wanted to prove a point. So finally he looked at me like what Gives. And I told him I too like to mess with people on occasion. And then I said you know there's always a bigger fish. One of these days you're going to do that to the wrong person and you're going to get knocked out. I wasn't referring to myself because I own a beater and I'm not going to go to jail over a piece of garbage like him. But I wanted to teach him a lesson before fafo
Yes exactly I had this happen to me back in 2001 bought a brand new Mustang GT, parked it half a mile away from the stinking entrance to the mall came out a couple hours later with my kids there was some piece of shit rust beater parked right beside it and don't you know they put in ding in my door, there was red paint on my white door. I called the police they said they didn't give a shit it's on private property, so I called the mall security they came out, they really didn't care either, the stupid mall cop said how do you know it was this car, well Dick Tracy this car is red there's red paint on my car and the door was unlocked on the rust beating piece of junk and I opened it, and that door lined up perfectly with the dent in my door, oh Dick Tracy screams oh you shouldn't have opened their door. We waited for a while no one came out, I suspect Dick Tracy mall cop knew who they were. The car was full of empty bags from fast food restaurants, these were real high class citizens, I should have pissed in their gas tank
That’s why I take up two spots at the end of parking lot. 🤪😅🤡
i leave the running lights on. assholes that tend to park next to you are cowards and dont do it if they think you may be in the car. i dont know about the herd theory. and how would it apply in a crowded parking lot? it kinda makes sence in an empty lot, but explain why people play magnet when you park far away when with lots of other openings ?? sometimes another person in a nice car will play magnet (for obvious reasons). and to be polite, they park 1 or 2 spots away. that way they are away from other cars but not right next to you. someone in a shit box doing it though just seems too much like they are just being an ass-
Its not an old people thing. This is a “People cant think for themselves thing!” These people MUST follow someone else or a crowd. It happens on the highway. Don’t believe me. Get in the fast lane and travel at 90mph someone will tailgate you believing you’re going to slow. You’ll be passing everyone else on the road and all of sudden, all three lanes to your left are EMPTY for at least a mile ahead and behind you. Yet, the tailgater will not leave from behind you. I have witnessed it first hand in several states across the country
People actually do that to piss you off. They anticipate you doing something to their car so that they can either confront you so you can assault them or catch you on video damaging THEIR car. It’s a money grab. Don’t fall for it.
Try parking a commercial bus far away…People will always park right next to you not understanding the turning radius…forces us to occupy four spaces or more if possible and even that doesn’t help! Stay away!
Every f**king time!!!! I swear people see our nice cars parked far away and are like "look at this a**hole parking his nice car away from everyone, I think I should park my POS next to him.
People are just weird. It’s like when you walk into an empty bathroom. There are 10 urinals. Yet the guy who comes in behind you decides to use the one right next to you. WTF is wrong with people??
Happened to me with my brand new Mercedes. . It was a nearly emptied parking lot and I parked near the end because I was sure I nobody would want that it would be too far for someone to walk up to the store. I went out to my car after shopping and low and behold there was a van next to me full of kids. I said to the driver that I was doing a psychology test (not to get her mad) and was wondering why she chose that parking spot next to mine out of all the wide open ones. She just looked at me and hauled all the kids out. Honestly, from the look on her face I don't think she knew why either.
That is not herd mentality. That is Narcissism. Same as going to a local park that is empty and people sitting right beside you. Narcissists cannot be alone. We built a home in a new addition. Had the whole place to ourselves for 6 mos. First people to build chose right beside us. Now, 20 yrs later, they are the worst lying cheating narcissisistic thieves ever.
I park in the middle of nowhere to avoid door dings, and some jerk parks right next to me! 😂 Out of 100 empty spots, and you choose my neighbor?!🤣
In the real world, the vehicle that parks next to the Mercedes Benz is likely a tow truck 🤣. Anyone who’s being honest with themself knows the reliability of the Mercedes Benz is horrible 😳.
Where I live there aren't many wide open parking lots. I once saw a Bentley parked in a supermarket parking lot. The seatbacks appeared to be a foot thick and the entire interior.was clad in buttery-soft leather. I rounded up every shopping cart within 50 ft of the beautiful thing and returned them to the cart corral. (I'm a car guy at heart.)
Never fails, but I assume it's people with tiny parts trying to compensate. Especially the big truck guys that park 6" away in an empty lot. The bigger the truck, the smaller the you know what.
I like parking next to other cars when they are alone 😂😂😂
So True .. even at Supermarkets… no one in the aisle…. Then suddenly everyone hovers around me needing toothpicks… Same at movie theaters…lol.
My husband does this and it happens all the time so he just parks far away and double parks in between 2 spaces most times.
How do you know the minivan isn't thinking the same thing and knowing your car is cool you likely wouldn't give them a door ding?! 😜
Why does this happen? I'm not a 🧲 magnet or neither is my car? I think it's an old people thing, they just follow the crowd. Either way it's frustrating, example: 2 weeks ago my partner parked her car the furthest away from the Supermarket entrance and trolley park. We came back to be divided between an old Honda and dare I say (again) another fucking Volvo. I now understand why supercar owners feel like parking diagonally across 3 spaces. At least it would confuse the Volvo drivers 🤷 Probably not
You all have ever realized that there are 7.5 billion human beings in the planet??? If you dont want to find other people parking next to you ....just move to Mars
eah, I never understood why idiots have to make a point to be Ass Holes and park next to a nice car on purpose. Heaven forbid we want to keep our car nice. One time two Hill-Jacks parked Small Dick lifted pick up trucks on either side. So, since I was at Lowes I just went back in and bought a couple ratchet tow straps and a Sentry pad lock, pulled forward, and tied their back wheels together and locked it tight.
Why is the minivan facing different directions in both pics?
Sometimes, after parking my car, immediately someone parks next to me. I always wanted to just start the car and park away again right in front of them.
It was never the 'risk of damage' for me. It was all about being able to 'open the door fully' to let me get into the Car! I dropped the roof a few times to allow access!
My mom used to do this in the late 80s, early 90s.... she parked at the far end of the grocery store and an old lady parked right next to her. When the old lady pulled away, I had the passenger door open to get in and it got caught by her rear bumper... she took our door with her and bend it backwards, then left the scene. The old lady was around 90 and the police told us to just forget it because she is old..... that wasn't going to happen lol
100% true… I went to a park with my family and parked my car almost 500 feet away from other cars and when I returned I saw a son of b…. Hit my car and the entire right side of my car busted. I never found the guy
Same thing happens when you are taking a shit at the public restroom, 10 toilets all empty but somebody will sit next to you!!
Exactly - dirtbags
I do the same and when I get back there is always a shit box parked next to me.
It happens because people post online about how thy park away from everyone and then the aholes of the world see the posts and just wanna irk u guys a bit.
I gave up, now I hunt corners, walls, and landscaping to use as barriers at least on one side, and get as close as possible on the passenger side, leave alot of room in my area as safety space from idiots
I know somebody on this app is guilty of parking next to someone like that .... Please answer why ?
totally true. I parked my SL in an empty car park that has 296 car parking spaces. I returned 40 minutes later to the 293 space available car park to find a white 2010 Volvo parked 12" fucking inches away and a fucking white 1997 Nissan Micra 9" inches away. The rest of the acre had literally no cars at all.
The phenomenon you are describing is known as the "herd behavior" (or "bandwagon effect"), driven by a psychological mechanism called "social proof." When a driver parks right next to you in an empty lot, or someone immediately queues up right behind you, their brain is trying to save cognitive energy. Human beings are evolutionary programmed to look at others to determine the "correct" behavior in any given space. Your car or your position in line acts as a visual anchor and a safety signal. Instead of calculating distances or deciding where to stand in a vast, open area, people unconsciously follow your lead because it feels safer, easier, and socially validated. It is the literal translation of the "sheep mentality" embedded in our subconscious minds.
Every. Single. Time. Some say it’s a herd mentality. I think it’s a bunch of a$$holes who do it on purpose. The only reason I park away is to keep the car looking new - that’s it. I know some of you understand that it really works to keep vehicles looking their best. I don’t mind walking for that benefit. But the intentional co-parking drives you mad!
