In a laboratory study published in Scientific Reports, researchers investigated how mechanical forces similar to those experienced during exercise affect circulating tumor cells. Using a microfluidic system and human breast cancer cells, they found that higher levels of fluid shear stress reduced cell viability and increased cell death under the experimental conditions. These findings offer insight into how blood-flow forces may influence circulating cancer cells, but they do not prove that intense exercise directly kills cancer cells in the human body or that exercise alone prevents or treats cancer.
