It’s crazy how much 50 has changed in…

· · 25.10.2026 14:35

It’s crazy how much 50 has changed in just a few decades. In 1985, it was common to see women that age with short gray hair and a classic mom look, and nobody thought twice about it.
Fast forward to today, and many 50-year-olds are walking red carpets with long dark hair, glowing skin and confidence to match. Some say it’s genetics and fitness, others say it’s filters, makeup and cosmetic work.
Which one do you think it is?

Bea was 63 in 1985.
However, you gotta think 41 years ago we didn’t have filters plus we didn’t have a lot of individuals with self-esteem issues, don’t get me wrong. I’m not saying that anybody has self-esteem issues. I’m just saying technology and I guess certain procedures and techniques now have made us look more youthful than we did or our parents did when they were in their 40s or 50s. However, plus you have to think about it. The Golden girls generation they grew up. They were in the great depression. I think that would’ve aged any individual even young individuals looked double their age if they survive the great depression. We’ve kind of had a good besides some of the BS lately but keep in mind the 50s versus 1985 versus 50s as of current day. Our grandparents were the ones that struggled through the Great Depression, I think that would put any age on any person, male or female with all the high stress that individuals went through during them 10 years
Just think.....people used to EXPECT ypu to look 50 when you were 50. Now, somehow they get the ick if you look your age.
Well we might be alittle old looking and ugly but we got houses.
Well some 50s still look like this 😂😂😂
Different make up and hairstyles, plus more exercise now ... We have different type clothing plus cosmetic surgery or botox... Things are much different now
It’s not a fair comparison It’s like a kia next to a Porsche . Try requel Welch maybe.
50 looks different in different race, other races shows strength and superiority when young but they get hit hard when they are 50 and some just cruise the world forever looking ok👌🏾
It's definitely filter's, different makeup and cosmetic work, longer coloured hair too and clothing style. Both women are slim so it's not a diet and excercise thing or a better skin thing as Bea did have a face lift its a style thing.
It’s no one thing. It’s nutrition, exercise, supplementation, lifestyle choices such as low alcohol intake, not smoking with cosmetic procedures and mostly being single ❤️
Bea Arthur was in her 60's when she was in The Golden Girls. She looked much better in that show than when she was in Maude. How old people look is largely due to genetics and lifestyle. I am 50. Don't use filters and wouldn't think of having plastic surgery or botox.
Women are taking better care of themselves and dressing younger. I'm 81 and still wear makeup and skinny jeans.
She's not 50 in the photo for starters. People are living longer now, modern medicine has come a long way since the 80's, sun worshipping has stopped, plus so many things that make 50 today not the 50 of yesterday.
It is, we don’t have to adopt the grandma look if we don’t want to. If we want to; that’s fine as well. Women have choices!
It's the hair.. short, fluffy hairdo's age you. Cut the woman's hair on the right and make it fluffy like Blanche and she'll look older too... And like someone else said, people smoked more back then... Smoking ages you too... So the combination of the two... 🤷
Can anyone explain to me why women are so focused on their appearance? And why are a lot of women afraid of ageing?
I can take a 50 year old from then and a 50 year old now as well…. Just gotta find the right or wrong candidates. Like you did.
It was a different time. Most people just accepted their ages and chopped off or once a week hairdos. Women today, well most just look younger from the get go and take better care iof themselves.
Not sure, but Bea Arthur was a Marine so she’s got my vote.
The power of the scalpel makeup, and Ozempic
No, people of the past drank and smoked way more and they didn’t know what major effect it had on their beauty until it was too late. Skincare has dramatically improved as well
Millennials and Gen Z are more health conscious plus more women have a skincare regimen now
