Kh’amorion Taylor was only two years old when he somehow got out of his father’s St. Louis home alone, wandering the street in his pajamas with no shoes. A neighbor out walking her own dogs spotted him around 8am and immediately noticed something unusual, a large stray pit bull was staying right beside him, seemingly guarding him as he walked. Nobody had trained that dog to do this, he had no known owner and no reason to feel responsible for a toddler he’d never met.
The neighbor spent the next several hours going door to door trying to find someone who recognized Kh’amorion, and through all of it, the dog never left his side. Eventually his father saw a social media post and the two were reunited, with Kh’amorion repeating “puppy” the entire time, as if he understood exactly who’d helped keep him safe. The St. Louis Police Department later considered adopting the dog themselves after the story spread. What do you think it says about a stray dog with no home of his own that his first instinct was to protect a lost child rather than just wander off on his own?
