Police pulled over an elderly man after reports of an orangutan driving him to get his medication.
The elderly man had spent most of his life working in a circus before retiring with the one friend he refused to leave behind. A rescued orangutan he had raised for years.
For a while after retirement, he managed to get around by taking cabs, but after a few years, money got tight. Eventually, he said he had to choose between paying for a nurse or continuing to care for the orangutan who had become his family. He chose his best friend.
The problem was, he still needed help getting his medication. So he came up with the worst idea possible. He taught the orangutan to steer a small golf cart around the property, thinking it was harmless practice.
But one day, when it was time to pick up his medicine, police got a call about an elderly man riding around with an orangutan behind the wheel. An officer pulled them over and couldn’t believe what he was seeing.
The orangutan was sitting on the man’s lap, holding the wheel, while the elderly man helped with the pedals. When the officer asked what he was thinking, the man explained everything and said he didn’t see the issue.
“The only problem was he couldn’t reach the gas pedal himself,” the man said. “So I had him sit on me to drive better.” The officer didn’t laugh.
But after hearing the full story, he called someone to safely take the man home with the orangutan and made sure he got his medication.
He still gave him a ticket for reckless driving. And advise the man to forgive a way to get his nurse back.
