South Florida is gearing up for another round of pop‑up storms this afternoon — the kind that roll in fast, dump buckets of rain, and leave behind steamy, dangerous heat.
The morning starts calm.
Then the sea breezes kick in — winds pushing inland from both coasts — and that’s when the atmosphere flips. Thunderstorms fire up over the interior, with a few drifting toward the metro areas as the day goes on.
The biggest threat: heavy, tropical downpours.
There’s so much moisture in the air that any storm can unleash rain intense enough to overwhelm drains in minutes. Urban flooding and water pooling in low‑lying spots are both on the table. A couple of storms could even pulse strong enough to send out damaging wind gusts.
Because of the flooding risk, the Weather Prediction Center has coastal communities under a marginal risk — level 1 out of 4 — for excessive rainfall.
And then there’s the heat.
Temperatures climb into the upper 80s and low 90s, but the humidity pushes the “feels like” numbers into the 100–105° range. Older adults and anyone working outside for long stretches will feel it the most.
Bottom line: storms, steam, and a whole lot of South Florida summer.
