The 17th Street Causeway Bridge is one of…

· · 19.08.2026 10:02

The 17th Street Causeway Bridge is one of Fort Lauderdale’s most recognizable drawbridges, and it’s a pretty impressive piece of the city’s waterfront. The bridge carries 17th Street over the Intracoastal and opens up regularly to let boats pass through. There’s something cool about the scale of it. One minute it’s carrying traffic, and the next it’s up in the air making room for boats. It’s a familiar part of Fort Lauderdale that almost feels like a piece of the city’s personality. It’s distinctive, impressive, and a pretty great example of how much engineering goes into keeping a waterfront city moving. The 17th Street Causeway Bridge is more than a bridge. It’s one of those Fort Lauderdale landmarks you remember

When I moved here the quay and harbor shops were not there and the traffic wasn't a nightmare when the old bridge was there..now if your lucky it's not gonna, take 30 min from US1 to the bridge only a few lights away.
oo bad the governing didn’t listen to the people We wanted a tunnel and two parks where people could watch the Boats from them wit a better view
One minute it is carrying traffic and the next it is causing traffic jams and backups. Real smart engineering. NOT! Why not just build a higher bridge that all boats can fit under like in Miami.
I remember when they built it. They were trying to decide between this, a 65’ fixed bridge, or a tunnel. Tunnel would have been the better choice, but even back then this city was too shortsighted. ☹️

Yes it is. A very impressive part of Ft Lauderdale
Usually go in January for 7 days from NC , & we are Canadians in NC. This year 10 days then to Key West. Different mapping this year. Usually go for at least 3 weeks. Cheers.
Crossed that bridge many times on my way to the beach ⛱️
Its name is the Clay Shaw bridge.
As kid we watched rich bitches on there yacht go out Port Everglades and we were just set at the span of the bridge and whip our dicks out and peel all over their bitches on the deck ha ha ha ha ha ha ha ha
Brett Lane · Took my older son fishing on the east side. Caught his first grouper where we took it home and cooked it. Best fresh fish ever.
Used to live a block away from the beach side of the bridge ending
Got my first speeding ticket Crossing that bridge
I remember when it was almost done and it crashed down causing damage and pushed the grand opening back by a few months. It could be a little taller but it’s still better than the old one that it replaced.
Yeah up in Virginia the Coleman bridge that spans over the York River connects York county and Gloucester county . There are only two of these Bridges out there. Virginia is the only state and then some country overseas so we own one of them proud Virginian to say we have that. Very cool thing is Naval weapons station Yorktown is right there so yeah that's a very unique bridge
