Worked for 11s

For most of human history, Homo sapiens was not the only kind of human on Earth. Several different human groups once walked the planet, and our species was just one branch of a much larger and more complicated human family.

Neanderthals, Denisovans, Homo erectus, Homo floresiensis and other ancient hominins lived across Africa, Europe and Asia, adapting to very different environments. They used tools, controlled fire, hunted, built communities and, in the case of Denisovans, even left part of their genetic legacy in some living populations through interbreeding with Homo sapiens.

Scientists see this diversity as evidence that human evolution was never a simple straight line leading directly to us. Each group followed its own path, and supporters of this view point to fossils, archaeological discoveries and ancient DNA as pieces of evidence showing just how diverse our prehistoric world really was.

Why Homo sapiens became the only surviving human species remains an open question. Climate shifts, population size, technology, resources, migration, competition and interbreeding may all have played roles, and researchers continue to debate how much each factor mattered. What remains unforgettable is that humanity was once a much bigger family, and we are the one branch still here today.
